Climbing at Cathedral and Whitehorse
June 8th - 12th, 2003

Mike and I learned the hard way that mid June was not the best time to be in New Hampshire. Sure the foliage was electric green and bursting with life, but that was because of the endless rain. And with the excess of water came hoards of bugs. Black flies, mosquitoes, and no-see-ums all chose us as a tasty meal.

Despite all of that Mike and I had a blast and climbed as much as we could have even if the weather had been better. We climbed at a bunch of areas around North Conway focusing mostly on Cathedral. We ticked off classics there like Thin Air, 5.6, Recombeast, 5.9, and Bombardment 5.8. Mike took a memorable and scary 30-foot fall on Airation 5.11a when a blue alien pulled. What made the fall especially scary was the fact that the climb itself was only 30 feet long so mike ended up hitting the ground. Luckily he hit very softly due to rope stretch and he walked away from the climb with only an injured heel.

The amazing abundance of climbing all within a few minutes of town was awesome and the granite was bomber. I found the climbing there to be quite hard for me, but it was a good challenge.
